MUTE PERFORMER &
MUTE EXPANDER
The NO BPM Mute Performer is a 12HP Vactrol-based active mute, using high-quality low-noise op-amps. The mute circuit is physically separated from the digital microcontroller components, ensuring ultra-low noise.
Aside from providing basic mute functions, the Mute Performer can cue multiple mute pads by holding the cue pad (Pad 3). When this pad is released, all selections will switch simultaneously. Following that, the cue button and your selections can also be locked and held with the lock pad (Pad 2). In lock mode, mutes and/or a mute scene can be selected and cued but won't change until the lock pad has been disengaged.
The four scene pads (Pads 4-7) allow you to assign different mute selections to each scene pad, making for quick transitions between predetermined mute selections. These scene banks can then be saved and loaded via the load pad (Pad 1).
There is one active buffer in memory and eight banks in flash to save or load from. Loading and saving only occurs when applied - this is performance-oriented so you can have your base setup saved, then jam away without losing your base settings.
To load a bank, simply hold Load (Pad 1) then select one of the eight lit-up pads.
Mutes, scenes, and load pads will engage instantly when pushed unless there is a clock in. The clock in will sync pad changes depending on the rate of the pulse patched in.
Mute channels can also be configured to perform other useful functions:
Stereo link: Channels 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 on the Mute Performer and Mute Expander pads can be linked to create stereo pairs. Once linked, either linked pad can be muted, unmuted, or cued by pressing one of the two pads.
Invert: Will program a mute channel to switch between MIDI mute on and analog mute off, and MIDI mute off and analog mute on. This is great for switching between two sounds that share a pad, say, a kick on a drum machine or a kick in your case.
MIDI Unlink: Will program a mute's MIDI channel to be fully muted and respond to the analog input only. This will mute an individual MIDI pad until changed, rather than disconnecting MIDI and losing access to all other MIDI mute pads.
Normal/Default: Pads mute and unmute analog and MIDI channels equally.
The Mute Performer alone has four mono channels. “But what if I need more channels?” you ask? Enter the Mute Expander...
The NO BPM Mute Expander is a 4HP expander to the Mute Performer. Standalone, it can perform basic mute functions, but when connected to the Mute Performer via the jumper leads on the back, it adds another four channels per Mute Expander. A maximum of 12 Mute Expanders can be chained, for a total of 52 mute channels.
The Mute Performer also has MIDI out, which can be sent via 3.5mm TRS MIDI TYPE A and out to almost any external piece of hardware with channel mutes or a volume knob. Making it possible to cue, scene, and load mutes in and out of your case with the touch of a button.
Finally, both modules have a mixer function. If nothing is connected to outputs 1, 2, or 3, then all inputs are summed to the mixer on output 4. When a patch cable is inserted into Output 1, 2, or 3, the internal connection is broken, and it is removed from the mixer on output 4.
